Bwindi Gorillas & Lake Bunyonyi

Trek the mountain gorillas of Bwindi, then unwind on the terraced islands of Lake Bunyonyi — Uganda's most iconic wildlife encounter paired with its most serene lake. 4 days, fully guided.

History

Why this place matters

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park was gazetted in 1991 and named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994, protecting one of Africa's oldest rainforests — over 25,000 years of unbroken growth. Its tangled, mist-wrapped slopes shelter roughly half the world's remaining mountain gorillas, alongside chimpanzees, forest elephants and more than 350 bird species. Just south lies Lake Bunyonyi, the "place of many little birds" — at up to 900 metres, often called the deepest lake in Africa. Its terraced hillsides and 29 islands, each with its own story (including the infamous Punishment Island), make it the perfect tranquil counterpoint to the adrenaline of the trek.
